The 'Strong Armenia' bloc intends to seek the annulment of the parliamentary election results held in Armenia on June 7, which were won by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's 'Civil Contract' party. Representatives of the political force have reported numerous violations during the voting process and are preparing to appeal to the country's Central Election Commission. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing RIA Novosti.
According to bloc representative Narek Karapetyan, on June 12 the alliance will officially submit a demand to the CEC to invalidate the election results and review the votes cast for the ruling 'Civil Contract' party.
According to the Armenian Central Election Commission, voting results have already been annulled at two polling stations. At station No. 10/51, access for citizens was not restricted after voting ended, and at station No. 35/65, military personnel were present after the station closed.
Additionally, the CEC has received requests for vote recounts from 555 polling stations.
'You yourselves saw how in dozens and hundreds of polling stations, after the recount, the number of votes cast for 'Civil Contract' significantly decreased. You saw how military personnel and state employees were sent to the elections. Considering all this, we will appeal to the Central Election Commission with a demand to recognize the election results as invalid and to review the votes for 'Civil Contract',' said bloc representative Narek Karapetyan.
According to him, if no prompt decision is made, the opposition intends to appeal to the Constitutional Court.
According to preliminary CEC data, the election was won by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's 'Civil Contract' party, which received 49.81% of the vote. This result allows the political force to form a government.
Second place went to businessman Samvel Karapetyan's 'Strong Armenia' bloc, which received 23.29% of the vote. Third place went to former President Robert Kocharyan's 'Armenia' bloc with 9.94%.
Entrepreneur Gagik Tsarukyan's 'Prosperous Armenia' party failed to cross the threshold, receiving 3.996% of the vote.
After the publication of preliminary results, Nikol Pashinyan declared victory for his political force and confirmed his intention to continue the course of rapprochement with the European Union. At the same time, the prime minister emphasized that Armenia is not yet ready to join the EU and will maintain its membership in the Eurasian Economic Union.
Earlier, representatives of 'Strong Armenia' reported numerous violations during the voting, including discrepancies in voter lists and pressure on opposition supporters.
