Kazakhstan has lost renowned film director, screenwriter and educator Ardak Amirkulov. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The Ministry of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan expressed condolences to the director's family, relatives, colleagues, students and all fans of his work.
Ardak Amirkulov devoted his life to the development of Kazakh cinema and raised several generations of young filmmakers. As a director and mentor, he made a significant contribution to the development of national cinema.
Famous films by the director
Among the most famous directorial works of Ardak Amirkulov are "The Fall of Otrar", "Abai", "1997. Rustem's Notes with Pictures", "Farewell, Gulsary!", "In Silence", "The Surgeon" and "The Land That Stopped the Wind". His films have been repeatedly noted for their deep understanding of Kazakhstan's history, spiritual values and human destinies.
Ministry of Culture's condolences
"The bright image of Ardak Zhamansaryuly, his worthy life and significant contribution to the development of Kazakh culture and cinema will forever remain in the people's memory," the Ministry of Culture wrote.
Awards and achievements
During his career, Ardak Amirkulov was awarded the State Prize of Kazakhstan, the Order of "Kurmet" and the title of "Honored Worker of Kazakhstan". His film "The Fall of Otrar" won an award at the Montreal Film Festival, and "Farewell, Gulsary!" won the Grand Prix of the "Eurasia" Film Festival and a number of other international awards.
