A pensioner in Aktobe lost one million tenge after trusting a 'retired US officer'. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to information provided by the regional police, a 62-year-old woman met a foreign citizen on a social network who introduced himself as a retired American military officer. The officer spoke sweet words and promised to meet in the future. Later, he wrote that he was facing temporary financial difficulties and convinced her that he would repay the money in full after arriving in Kazakhstan.
Trusting his words, the pensioner transferred 1 million tenge to the fraudster's account in several installments. 'After receiving the money, the suspect stopped communication. The woman realized she had become a victim of fraud and contacted the police. Pre-trial investigation measures are being carried out on this fact,' police said.
The police urge people not to transfer money to acquaintances met online, not to share personal and bank details, and to be cautious of suspicious offers.
