In Aktobe, fraudsters deceived a pensioner and stole 750,000 tenge, the regional police department reported. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

Unknown persons contacted a 70-year-old woman via WhatsApp messenger, introducing themselves as clinic employees. They said that to continue receiving medical services, she needed to re-register and asked her to provide the SMS code sent to her phone.

After some time, the pensioner received calls from people posing as eGov portal and bank employees. They claimed that fraudsters were trying to access her bank accounts and demanded that she follow their instructions to "save" her money. The woman believed the fraudsters and consequently lost 750,000 tenge.

Currently, a pre-trial investigation is underway. Police urge citizens to be cautious to avoid falling victim to fraudsters.
