On the afternoon of June 21, a strong storm wind hit Aktobe, uprooting trees, damaging property, and causing power outages. This was reported by the city akimat and the Emergency Situations Department of Aktobe Region. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Around 13:30, a squall wind suddenly hit the city. According to eyewitnesses, the wind intensified within minutes, after which the consequences of the elements began to be recorded in several areas of the city.
Residents reported that the wind uprooted trees in courtyards and streets. In some cases, they fell near residential buildings and parked cars. Footage of the aftermath is being shared on social media.
The storm was accompanied by a short but heavy downpour with thunderstorms. According to residents, power outages were recorded in some areas of the city, including residential neighborhoods.
The Aktobe akimat reported that according to Kazhydromet, wind gusts reached 30 m/s. Due to the worsening weather conditions, the city's utility services have been put on enhanced operation mode.
According to local authorities, work crews from 10 contractor organizations and specialized equipment have been involved in eliminating the consequences. Work is underway at 9 sites in the Astana district and 7 sites in the Almaty district.
It is noted that fallen trees from the courtyards of apartment buildings are being removed with the participation of chairmen of condominium associations. The damage has not yet been assessed.
Damage to the roofs of two apartment buildings and five private houses was also reported.
In the energy supply sector, Energosistema LLP has been put on enhanced operation mode, and an operational headquarters has been created. Restoration work is underway in five districts of the city, as well as in the Kuraily and Prigorodny residential areas.
Ten emergency crews have been deployed to eliminate the consequences, and additional forces and equipment are planned to be involved if necessary.
At the same time, the Emergency Situations Department of Aktobe Region reported that they had warned about the worsening weather conditions in the morning. According to rescuers, on June 21, rain and thunderstorms were expected in the west and north of the region, with wind gusts possibly reaching 15-20 m/s in some places.
Residents noted that they did not receive any warnings about the approaching storm.
According to forecasts, rainy weather is expected in Aktobe in the coming days.
