A court in Aktobe has issued a verdict for a 16-year-old teenager who stabbed his mother to death. He was sent not to prison but to compulsory treatment. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
During the trial, experts who conducted an examination over ten months found that the teenager had a mental disorder. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia. The 16-year-old is currently receiving treatment at a psychiatric hospital in Talgar, so he did not hear the verdict.
The bloody crime occurred on New Year's Eve. The teenager wanted to talk to his 41-year-old mother at home. During the conversation, a quarrel broke out, and the enraged boy grabbed a knife and struck his mother several times, killing her.
His 73-year-old grandmother, seeing the attack on her daughter-in-law, tried to intervene. However, the teenager also stabbed her, wounding her in several places. She was later taken to the hospital and survived.
No one expected that a teenager who studied well and won prizes at Olympiads could commit such a crime. Even his previous irritability and behavioral changes were attributed by relatives to whims or adolescence.
During the trial, several medical examinations were conducted. Specialists concluded that he had a chronic mental illness. Since the disease is dangerous to society, the judge decided to isolate him.
"Order compulsory treatment in a specialized psychiatric hospital with intensive observation. The security measure in the form of placement in a special medical organization providing psychiatric care, applied to Zeinelgabidin, shall remain unchanged. Procedural costs of 1,147,523 tenge incurred for court examinations shall be borne by the state," said Altynbek Sabyrov, chairman of the specialized inter-district court for criminal cases of Aktobe region.
