Thousands of teachers in Aktobe Region who started their annual leave on July 1 have yet to receive their vacation pay. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The education department attributes the delay to a lack of budget funds and promises full payment by July 10. The issue came to light after teachers appealed to the editorial board of the publication "Diapazon." According to teachers, vacation pay has not been transferred, and they are told the reason is a lack of funds.
"Vacation for teachers is a legally guaranteed right. Without timely payments, it turns not into a recovery period but into a time of anxiety and uncertainty. We want to know why vacation pay is not being paid on time and when it will be given," the teachers' appeal states.
The education department reported that payments are made as budget funds become available. According to Deputy Head of the department Akkenzhe Tyndybayeva, teachers who went on leave starting June 1 have already received their salaries and vacation pay.
"We have drawn up a schedule and are ready to gradually pay vacation pay to those who went on leave from July 1 to 10, as soon as funds arrive from the budget," she explained.
The region employs about 26,000 teachers. Paying vacation pay to teachers who went on leave in July requires about 5 billion tenge. Later, the education department reported that they plan to fully settle with teachers by July 10.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that the head of the Kostanay city education department, Gulsum Urazbayeva, who was previously detained on suspicion of embezzling budget funds, was taken into custody.
