In Aktobe region, a sergeant who beat a conscript soldier has been sentenced, the Aktobe Military Court reports. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The sergeant was charged under Part 1 of Article 451 of the Criminal Code "Exceeding official powers, causing significant harm to the victim's health."
"Being responsible for conscripted military personnel, he inflicted moderate bodily harm on a serviceman," the court said.
The prosecutor sought imprisonment. However, the defendant pleaded not guilty and requested acquittal. He partially acknowledged the civil claim, asking to recover only court costs related to legal representation in favor of the victim.
The sergeant was found guilty under Part 1 of Article 451 and sentenced to 1 year in prison.
"700,000 tenge was awarded to the victim as compensation for moral damage, and 900,000 tenge in court costs for legal representation," the Aktobe Military Court stated.
