In Aktau, within the framework of the International Year of Volunteers, the Caspian Clean Challenge environmental marathon was held as part of the international volunteer week Caspian Sea Action Week 2026. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The main goal of the event is to draw public attention to preserving the Caspian Sea ecosystem, fostering ecological culture, and supporting volunteer initiatives.
The marathon took place in a plogging format. Participants combined sports with cleaning the Caspian coast from litter.
The environmental action involved volunteers from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Russia, Iran, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The initiative, bringing together volunteers from several countries, highlighted the shared responsibility of Caspian states in nature protection.
As part of the marathon, a special ecological town was also organized. Projects of eco-volunteer organizations, green technologies, and innovations in the field were presented. Participants were shown waste sorting methods, and master classes and quizzes were held.
