A surgeon at the regional children's hospital in Aktau has been detained in connection with the death of a minor patient. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the Mangystau Region Police Department, the doctor is suspected of improperly performing professional duties. During the investigation, it was established that shortcomings of an organizational, tactical, and treatment-diagnostic nature were allowed during the provision of medical care to the child at the regional children's hospital.
After the minor child's condition worsened, he was transported by air ambulance to a medical facility in Almaty. However, the child later died.
As part of the criminal case, necessary investigative actions were carried out, and testimony was taken from medical workers. Commission forensic medical examinations were also appointed.
"According to the conclusion of the commission forensic medical examination, shortcomings were identified during the provision of medical care to the minor child that could have contributed to the development of complications," the police reported.
On October 1, 2026, the surgeon of the regional children's hospital was detained in accordance with Article 128 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He was placed in a temporary detention facility. Currently, the pre-trial investigation continues.
Investigative measures aimed at establishing all circumstances of the incident are being carried out. Due to the interests of the investigation, other information is not disclosed.
Recall that in April of this year, Aktau resident Zhuldyz Azanova stated that due to doctors' error, her 13-year-old son was in serious condition and later died. The woman demanded that those she considered involved in the incident be held accountable.
Later, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan began a large-scale inspection to establish all circumstances of the incident. During the inspection, a number of legal violations were identified at the Mangystau Regional Multidisciplinary Children's Hospital. Based on this fact, the regional prosecutor's office opened a criminal case.
In addition, the Social Health Insurance Fund applied economic sanctions against City Polyclinic No. 2 in Aktau.
