The Supreme Court on Thursday allowed the Trump administration to end legal protections for migrants fleeing violence and natural disaster in Haiti and Syria. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.

The 6-3 decision overturns lower court orders and allows the Department of Homeland Security to swiftly end temporary protected status (TPS), a program that protects a total of 1.3 million people from 17 countries.

The ruling has sparked fear in Haitian communities. A rally supporting Haitians took place on June 25, 2026, in Springfield, Ohio, where residents watched a choir sing. A vigil with Haitian flags and candles was held at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex in North Miami that same evening.

Viles Dorsainvil, executive director of the Haitian Community Help and Support Center, sits with interpreter James Fleurijean in Springfield, Ohio, on Jan. 25, 2025. The decision affects thousands of people from Haiti and Syria.
