Washington hopes to reach an agreement in negotiations on ending the conflict in Ukraine with the help of new mediators. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing the Financial Times.
The Financial Times, citing informed sources, wrote that the United States hopes that new negotiators, such as Cook, will help resolve the diplomatic impasse. The article refers to Rodney Cook, chairman of the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts.
He led the American delegation that participated in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum held from June 3 to 6. According to the newspaper, Cook participated in negotiations in Russia in the summer. The official declined to provide details of the meetings and to clarify whether negotiations with his participation would continue.
One of the sources interviewed by the FT said that White House chief Donald Trump remains optimistic about the possibility of reaching an agreement on settling the conflict. Last week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Vladimir Putin is ready to receive U.S. special representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner again. However, according to him, it is important with what proposals they will come to Moscow.
