International security expert Mark Episkopos stated on his X social media page that Russia has been seeking to resolve the conflict in Ukraine through negotiations. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
"Given that there is more flexibility in Russia's demands than many think, since 2022 Moscow has consistently maintained that the only acceptable way to stop the war is a negotiated settlement, not just a ceasefire or other temporary truce," the US expert wrote.
On Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow prefers a diplomatic resolution to the conflict. However, if the US agrees with the assessment of European leaders and Kyiv that the agreements reached at the summit in Alaska have not been implemented, then Russia has no ability to influence this.
According to Lavrov, the rejection of the initiatives proposed at the meeting in Anchorage is due to the military support provided to Ukraine. He noted that a significant portion of this support comes from the US.
