From September 21 to 25, the United States will conduct an international flight safety assessment in Kazakhstan. This stage will be a decisive step in two-year negotiations on launching direct flights from Kazakhstan to the US. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
American inspectors will assess how flight safety is monitored in Kazakhstan. The audit will cover aviation legislation, pilot training, and the technical condition of aircraft for compliance with ICAO international standards.
“The expert team includes specialists in international aviation law, aviation personnel licensing, airworthiness, and flight operations,” the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan said.
In addition, on September 24, US specialists will make a technical visit to Air Astana, which has applied for permission from the US Department of Transportation to carry out commercial activities. The commission will check the transparency of the carrier’s processes.
After the inspection is completed, the American side will hold a briefing and provide a written report on the audit results.
Successful completion of this stage will bring the opening of direct flights between Kazakhstan and the US closer.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that the first Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, with which Air Astana expects to operate direct flights from Kazakhstan to New York and Tokyo, will arrive in the republic in December 2026.
