The United States views the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin to the G20 summit in Miami as an opportunity for Russia to interact not only with the United States but also with other countries. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
This was stated by Secretary of State Marco Rubio in response to a question from RIA Novosti.
"We think this is an opportunity for him to establish contact not only with the president (US President Donald Trump – Sputnik) but also with other leaders," he said after a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
According to him, the US is open to interaction with Russia.
"Since the president took office, they (Trump and Putin – Sputnik) have spoken at least ten times. So yes, we are open to interaction," Rubio said.
The Russian foreign minister and the US secretary of state met on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
