Washington and Tehran have reportedly agreed on a ceasefire. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Sources in Pakistani military circles and Iranian security agencies told RIA Novosti that the ceasefire has been agreed, including free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
"The ceasefire has been agreed, it includes free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz," the agency's interlocutors said.
According to them, the ceasefire may be officially announced in the coming days. After that, the parties plan to hold negotiations and several rounds of technical consultations.
The US and Iranian authorities have not yet publicly confirmed the agreement.
Earlier, Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi reported progress in negotiations with the Iranian side. He expressed hope that the creation of a temporary corridor for the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz would be announced soon. In the future, the parties intend to find a permanent solution to the issue.
In mid-June, the US and Iran signed a memorandum that was supposed to launch the process of preparing a peace agreement. A few weeks later, the situation escalated again. Washington accused Tehran of attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, after which the parties resumed exchanges of strikes.
In recent weeks, mediators in the Middle East have been trying to help the US and Iran agree on the terms of a new deal. US President Donald Trump previously stated that Washington continues negotiations with Tehran while increasing economic pressure on the Islamic republic.
The American leader also announced the start of an economic operation against Iran and called on allies to join the isolation of the country. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called Trump's statement an attempt to divert attention from US domestic problems.
