A bipartisan group of U.S. House lawmakers welcomed a delegation from Taiwan to Capitol Hill on Wednesday. The delegation was led by Taiwan's Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.

American lawmakers pledged firm support for the self-governed island of Taiwan. The meeting came as the Trump administration reviews a $14 billion arms sales package to Taiwan, which was preliminarily approved months ago.

Han Kuo-yu spoke at a reception hosted by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) in Washington. He handed out business cards to members of Congress and called for strengthening bilateral ties.

Both Democrats and Republicans attended the meeting, emphasizing the importance of relations with Taiwan. The U.S. arms sales to Taiwan have drawn criticism from China, but Washington views these steps as necessary to enhance the island's defense capabilities.
