The Trump administration has taken drastic measures, banning Americans in the Democratic Republic of Congo from returning home on commercial flights. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to Reuters, citing sources, due to the rapid spread of the virus, the White House has imposed a mandatory 21-day quarantine in third countries for its citizens.

The new restrictions come amid a widening Ebola outbreak that has spread to several more provinces in Congo. According to official data from the DRC government, the number of confirmed cases nationwide has risen to 1,926, including 702 deaths.

According to one US official who spoke on condition of anonymity, about two dozen Americans were scheduled to fly to the US on Tuesday, July 14, after a trip to Congo. However, the State Department has banned entry into the country for three weeks. It was noted that people will receive all necessary support during the waiting period.

Earlier, it was reported that several Americans in Congo had tested positive for the Ebola virus.

Previously, the World Health Organization warned that Ebola could spread from neighboring countries to South Sudan with a probability of about 70%.

Recall that the outbreak in Congo began in mid-May. The cause was the Bundibugyo strain, for which there is currently no vaccine or specific treatment. The WHO estimates that a vaccine for this strain will take at least six months to develop.
