The US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that it attacked three Iranian oil tankers after ballistic missiles were launched toward two American military ships in the region. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to CENTCOM, American forces managed to avoid several attacks by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) directed against a US aircraft carrier and a guided-missile destroyer. No American military personnel were injured.
Admiral Cooper's Statement
Commander of US Central Command, Admiral Brad Cooper, said on Saturday: "Our signal to the IRGC is crystal clear: if you shoot at our two ships, we will make you pay an even higher economic price — by destroying three of yours."
"We will not hesitate to defend American forces and, if necessary, will destroy Iran's limited and vulnerable oil fleet," Cooper added.
Iran's Warning
Earlier, it was reported that Iran would intensify strikes on US military vessels if the US did not stop attacks on ships of the Islamic Republic. This warning was issued by Ebrahim Zolfaghari, a representative of the central headquarters of the military command "Khatam al-Anbiya," as reported by Fars.
"If atrocities, destabilization, and interference with Iranian ships, as well as the naval blockade of Iran, continue, the strikes of the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran against US warships in the region will become more serious than before," Zolfaghari threatened.
He also emphasized that Tehran is considering the possibility of "expanding these attacks."
Escalation of Tensions
This incident occurs against the backdrop of deteriorating relations between the US and Iran. The Persian Gulf is a vital artery for global oil supplies, so any conflict here could impact the world economy. According to experts, this situation poses a serious threat to regional stability.
Attacks on American warships and retaliatory actions are drawing international attention. The UN and other international organizations are urging the parties to avoid provocations.
Strikes on Iran's oil exports could cause significant damage to Tehran's economy. This could also negatively affect negotiations on Iran's nuclear program.
The actions of American warships in the region are being criticized by Iran, and the standoff between the two countries may intensify. The world community is calling for preventing further escalation.
Conclusion
The latest events in the Persian Gulf indicate that the conflict between the US and Iran has reached a new level. Both sides describe their actions as defensive, but this increases instability in the region and could affect the global oil market. The international community is urging the parties to engage in dialogue and is trying to prevent further aggravation.
