The United States has struck Iranian military sites in retaliation for an attack on a merchant vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. Washington stated that Tehran's actions constituted a violation of the ceasefire regime. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

US aircraft struck Iranian missile and drone depots, as well as coastal radar stations, according to the US Central Command (CENTCOM).

The command said the operation was a response to the June 25 attack on the Singaporean cargo ship M/V Ever Lovely, which was exiting the Strait of Hormuz along the coast of Oman.

US President Donald Trump stated that Iran attacked the cargo ship with four strike drones. According to him, one drone hit the vessel, and three others were shot down.

"One drone hit the cargo ship, three others were shot down. This is a violation of the ceasefire agreement," Trump said.

The American leader said the ship was damaged but able to continue its journey. When asked about possible consequences for Iran, Trump replied: "You will find out."

According to Reuters, two US officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the US assessment indicates the ship was attacked by Iran.

Earlier, Tehran sharply criticized a joint statement by the US and six Gulf states, in which they rejected Iran's intention to control shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and impose tolls on passing vessels.

Iran called the document "interventionist, irresponsible, and provocative" and warned Gulf states against supporting Washington's policies.

The US stated that the attack on the merchant vessel threatens freedom of navigation in one of the world's most important trade routes and demonstrates the fragility of the previously reached ceasefire between the parties.
