US President Donald Trump said Washington has granted Iran a one-week pause to hold farewell and funeral ceremonies for the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ali Khamenei. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

"They really want to reach an agreement, they are eager to settle the issue. Since we are good people, we gave them a week off to hold the funeral," Trump said at a rally in South Dakota.

The US president did not directly announce a formal one-week break in negotiations. However, the statement was made in the context of ongoing talks between Washington and Tehran.

The farewell ceremony for former Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei began on July 3 with a special event for foreign guests, politicians, and public figures. The main part of the funeral will take place from July 4 to 9 in several Iranian cities. Finally, the ayatollah will be buried in his hometown of Mashhad.
