The US Treasury revoked the temporary general license for trading Iranian oil and canceled the 60-day permit issued on June 22 as part of a June memorandum on conflict resolution. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing BBC.
From July 7, any new deals with Iranian oil, petroleum products, and petrochemicals are completely banned. Market participants must fully close previously started and permitted operations by July 17.
The reason was the shelling of three commercial vessels (including tankers from Qatar and Saudi Arabia) by unknown projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz. US officials blamed Iran, calling its actions completely unacceptable.
At the same time, according to world agencies, a US representative assured that peace negotiations with Iran continue despite these events.
Immediately after the official US statement, global oil prices jumped by more than 3–5%.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that Trump claimed full control over the Strait of Hormuz and threatened Iran.
