The White House has imposed sanctions on the International Criminal Court. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

Reuters, citing a statement by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, confirmed the decision. Rubio said: "President Trump will never allow the International Criminal Court to persecute Americans. <…> We prohibit transactions with this isolated court, halt its resources and limit its ability to function."

The US Treasury Department authorized financial transactions necessary for the court to continue or limit its activities until April 7, 2027.

In addition, the State Department gave countries party to the Rome Statute 180 days to make progress in resolving disagreements with Washington over the court's work.

In turn, the International Criminal Court (ICC) strongly condemned the US sanctions against the court as an institution, calling the move an unprecedented measure. This was stated in a court statement published today.

"Today the US imposed sanctions against the International Criminal Court as an institution. This unprecedented step followed a series of sanctions against 13 independent judges and the prosecutor serving the cause of justice," the court statement said.

The ICC said it strongly condemns the decision of the US authorities, describing it as an attack on the rule of law and the foundation of the international legal order.
