A resident of Akmola region fell victim to online scammers, went into debt, and lost more than 10 million tenge. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to the regional police department, the woman believed promises of high investment returns. She registered on a fake investment platform called FIBO Markets LTD and then began following instructions from fake consultants.

"From May to July, the woman took out two loans, borrowed money from acquaintances, and invested her own savings. As a result, she transferred more than 10.2 million tenge to the scammers," police said.

The woman only realized she had been deceived a month later, after which she filed a police report.

Investigations into fake platforms show that scammers often disguise themselves as well-known brokers, use counterfeit websites and positive reviews to create an appearance of reliability. After depositing money, users frequently encounter additional fees and are unable to withdraw funds.

Law enforcement urges Kazakhstani citizens not to transfer money to unknown investment platforms and not to trust promises of guaranteed high returns.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that fraudsters in Kazakhstan devised a new scam scheme: first, they allow withdrawing a small amount of supposedly earned profit, then convince victims to invest significantly more money.

It was also previously reported that scammers increasingly call Kazakhstani citizens posing as utility workers.
