A resident of Akkol District in Akmola Region fell asleep while breastfeeding her baby. The infant suffocated and died. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to court materials, the woman returned from a guest visit intoxicated. She then fell asleep while breastfeeding the baby. When she woke up, the woman noticed that her child was lying motionless.
Doctors who arrived at the scene determined that the infant had suffocated and died.
In court, the woman admitted guilt and said she regretted her actions. By court decision, she was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months of restricted freedom with probation supervision.
