The passenger train Petropavlovsk – Almaty struck 13 head of small cattle in Akmola Region. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Where and when the incident occurred
According to the Transport Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the train stopped for nine minutes. The accident occurred on September 13 on the Makinka – Yeltay stretch.
Driver applied emergency braking
The driver noticed sheep on the tracks and applied emergency braking, but the collision could not be avoided.
Owner of the animals identified
Transport police identified the owner of the animals. He turned out to be a 63-year-old resident of Akmola Region.
"For violating the rules of grazing livestock in the railway right-of-way, the man was brought to administrative responsibility," noted Kurmet Mazhikenov, deputy head of the Transport Police Department.
Statistics on emergency braking
According to police data, since the beginning of the year, 1,005 cases of emergency braking of trains have been registered. In 746 of them, the cause was animals entering the railway tracks.
