In the Akmola region, police detained two men suspected of extorting 30 million tenge from a local businessman. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the regional police department, on August 5, law enforcement officers learned that unknown persons, threatening physical violence, demanded a large sum from the entrepreneur.
“A pre-trial investigation has been launched on the fact of extortion. During operational-search activities, police identified and detained two men, one of whom is an MMA coach. It has been preliminarily established that the detainees may be involved in demanding money for the so-called ‘patronage’ of the victim’s business,” the police reported.
The suspects have been placed in a temporary detention facility. The investigation is also checking their possible involvement in other similar crimes in the Akmola region.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that a 28-year-old man was detained in Aktobe on suspicion of extorting foreign students.
