Planned preventive maintenance has started at the Atyrau Oil Refinery (ANPZ). National company KazMunayGas reported that the situation on Kazakhstan's domestic petroleum products market remains stable. Reserves of AI-92 gasoline cover 34 days of consumption, while diesel fuel reserves are calculated for 32 days. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Work at the enterprise began on June 26, 2026, in accordance with the approved schedule of the Ministry of Energy. The main goal of the technical measures is to ensure equipment reliability, process stability, and increase production efficiency.
As part of the repair, mandatory technical inspection of 20 reactors, 213 vessels, 32 columns, and 231 heat exchange equipment units will be carried out, as well as replacement of individual pipeline sections. A number of process units will see replacement of 335 tons of catalysts. At the ELOU AVT-3 unit, the internal devices of the vacuum column will be updated, which in the future will increase the production volumes of light petroleum products (gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel).
The work involves 1,685 specialists and 53 units of specialized equipment. Phased commissioning of process units is scheduled for July 10, 2026.
To maintain stable supplies during the ANPZ shutdown, the refinery has formed its own tank farm. At the start of repair work, the enterprise's reserves amounted to: 38 thousand tons of gasoline; 31.3 thousand tons of diesel fuel; 6.8 thousand tons of aviation fuel. Shipment of petroleum products will be carried out as usual using these accumulations.
The repair at the Atyrau refinery takes place against the backdrop of increased attention to the fuel market. On June 24, 2026, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan issued a statement refuting messages circulating on social networks about an impending shortage of motor fuel.
It was also reported that Russia is discussing with Kazakhstan the possibility of importing AI-92 gasoline or processing Russian oil at Kazakh refineries with subsequent export of fuel to the Russian Federation.
Vice Minister of Trade and Integration Zhanel Kushukova said that Kazakhstan wants to agree at the EAEU level on the temporary abolition of customs duties on fuel imports. The measures are related to problems in the supply of gasoline and diesel from Russia.
