England had a prolific first half, going into the break 4-0 up. In the 3rd minute, Declan Rice intercepted the ball in midfield, advanced to the edge of the box, and fired into the far corner. In the 18th minute, Ezri Konsa doubled the lead from Rice's corner kick.
Before halftime, England scored twice more. Bukayo Saka scored in the 37th minute, then added a second in first-half stoppage time after a pass from Eberechi Eze.
After the break, France stepped up. In the 48th minute, Kylian Mbappé scored after a pass from Michael Olise, and soon after he assisted Bradley Barcola. In the 66th minute, Mbappé scored again to make it 3-4.
Mbappé's second goal was his 22nd in World Cups, surpassing Lionel Messi to become the tournament's all-time top scorer.
In the closing stages, three more goals were scored. Saka converted a penalty in the 87th minute for his hat-trick, making it 5-3. In stoppage time, Ousmane Dembélé gave France hope, but Jude Bellingham immediately scored England's sixth to seal the win.
England won the bronze medal and will receive $30 million in prize money. France finished fourth and will earn $28 million.
