21-year-old Anastasia Rypakova won a silver medal at the Asian U23 Athletics Championships in Ordos, China. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The daughter of Olympic champion Olga Rypakova jumped 6.11 meters (season's personal best) on her fourth attempt, edging out bronze medalist Thi Thai Hang of Vietnam by one centimeter. Gold in the event went to China's Yingin Huang with 6.48 meters.

On the second day of competition, two Kazakh women qualified for the 400m final. Maria Shuvalova ran the lap in 53.05, while Anna Shumilo clocked 54.60, a personal best. Both will compete for medals tomorrow.

In the 800m final, Ayana Bolatbekkyzy finished sixth (2:11.35), losing to champion Janbibi Khukmova of Uzbekistan by nearly three seconds.

Faina Meirmanova placed seventh in the high jump with 1.70m. Gold and silver went to Uzbek high jumpers Valeriya Gorbatova (1.85) and Barnokhon Sayfullaeva (1.83).

Kazakhstani distance runners Rinat Kuligin and Bagzhan Serikkan did not make the podium in the 3000m steeplechase. Kuligin finished fifth (9:31.52), 37 seconds behind the winner, while Serikkan was eighth (10:08.42).

The Asian U23 Athletics Championships are being held for the first time. The nearest reserve of national teams competes in 45 events. Kazakhstan sent 21 athletes to Ordos – 17 women and 4 men.

After two days of competition, the hosts lead the medal table confidently.
