Americans have grown less proud of their country's history and the way its democracy works over the past decade, according to a new AP-NORC poll. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.
The poll was conducted in April 2025, during a prolonged war between the US and Iran. Pride in the US military has dropped 19 percentage points since 2017, and pride in democracy has fallen 14 percentage points. Gallup polling finds that only 53% of US adults are "extremely" or "very" proud to be American, the lowest reading since 2001.
The decline is largely driven by Democrats, who have become increasingly disenchanted since Trump's first term. However, most Americans still say being an American is important to their identity.
