Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has stated that Dastan Satpayev, like other attacking players in the team, must adhere to the playing principles set by the coaching staff. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the Spanish specialist, tactical discipline does not limit the freedom of footballers but helps them showcase their best qualities.
Alonso's response
Answering a question during a press conference ahead of the match against Tottenham in the Sydney Super Cup about how much freedom on the pitch should be given to Cole Palmer, Alonso listed the attacking group players, including the Kazakhstani footballer.
"I believe discipline gives freedom. When there are clear playing mechanisms and specific duties, the footballer has the opportunity to make free decisions, demonstrate their talent and best qualities," Alonso is quoted as saying by football.london.
Team requirements
At the same time, the coach emphasized that individual freedom should not contradict team requirements.
"There are principles that all players must follow for the team to function well. I am sure the players understand this because modern football is structured exactly this way," the specialist noted.
Alonso added that all Chelsea attacking players must adhere to this approach.
"Cole, Joao Pedro, Morgan Rogers, Jamie Gittens, Dastan – all attacking players must adopt this mindset. And they are already doing it," the head coach stated.
Satpayev's qualities
Earlier, Alonso called Satpayev a special footballer and highlighted his speed, physical preparation, and ability to create threats near the opponent's goal. The coach also positively assessed the Kazakhstani's first steps after moving from Almaty.
Recall that Satpayev opened his goal account for Chelsea in the team's first pre-season match under Alonso. The Kazakhstani started on the left flank and scored in the seventh minute of the match against Western Sydney Wanderers, which ended with a 6:4 victory for the Londoners.
