Almaty residents said they paid a company about 130 million tenge for apartment repairs, but the work was never completed. According to clients, the builders stopped responding, leaving unfinished work and damaged utilities. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
One client paid about 7 million tenge
One of the clients, Islam Ordabayev, bought an apartment in shell-and-core condition a year ago. He found the contractor online and paid about 7 million tenge for the repairs. The man still cannot move into the housing.
According to him, the workers did not install doors and did not finish installing ceilings, plumbing and electrical systems. There were also complaints about the quality of the work performed.
"The laminate was laid. It was laid incorrectly, they just inserted cardboard there. They also installed heating pipes for us, after which these pipes burst," said Islam Ordabayev.
Company management and workers stopped responding
According to the man, the workers and company management disappeared. Another 20 Almaty residents have been unable to contact them for several months. At the same time, according to the claimants, the firm continues to advertise services on social media under a different name and accept orders in other cities of Kazakhstan.
Clients turned to the police and demand an objective investigation.
"Either they close the case, then they restore it again. And so we gathered, we demand an objective investigation, so that they give us answers to our questions," said Zhanna Ilyasova.
Police opened a criminal case
The Almaty police department said a criminal case had been opened. The investigation is being conducted by the police department of the Almaly district, and the claimants are being interviewed.
"On this fact, the police department of the Almaly district is conducting an investigation. Absolutely all procedural actions provided for by criminal procedural legislation will be carried out," said the official representative of the Almaty Police Department, Saltanat Azirbek.
Many clients took out loans for repairs
According to the TV channel, many clients took out loans for the repairs. Now they continue to pay off the loans, although the work in the apartments has not been completed.
