The epicenter of the earthquake was located just 8 km southwest of Almaty. The estimated intensity of tremors in the city was 3–4 points. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the ministry, in Kaskelen, which is 18 km from the epicenter, the intensity was 2–3 points. In Boraldai, located 19 km away, it was also 2–3 points.
In Otegen Batyr, located 28 km from the epicenter, the estimated intensity was 2 points.
After the tremors, Almaty residents received an emergency alert urging them to go to open space and stay there until further instructions.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that on the morning of September 28, Almaty residents reported an underground tremor and received a national earthquake alert on their phones. At the same time, the Emergency Ministry stated that the registered seismic event was not felt in the city. Photos of people leaving the building of one of the schools also appeared on social media.
