Police in Almaty have arrested two suspects for stealing relay protection terminals from a transformer substation in the Nauryzbai district, causing nearly 10 million tenge in damages. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to the city police department, the theft occurred at night in the Nauryzbai district. Investigators say the perpetrators took advantage of open access and stole expensive equipment critical to the operation of the energy infrastructure.

"During operational search activities, criminal police officers identified the suspects and detained them. Both have been placed in a temporary detention facility. A criminal case has been opened under the article on theft committed on an especially large scale," the police department reported.

According to the investigation, the involvement of the detainees is confirmed by witness testimony, CCTV footage, and other case materials.

The investigation is ongoing. Police are determining all circumstances of the crime to recover the stolen equipment.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that five Kazakhstani citizens stole copper from trains heading to China. The court restricted their freedom for 2.5 years.
