Large-scale improvement works on Timiryazev and Zhandosov streets in Almaty are nearing completion. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

All major works on the streets are planned to be completed by the end of September, the Almaty akimat reported. Pedestrian zones should be fully accessible to citizens. Sidewalks and bike lanes are being widened, new lighting and an automatic watering system are being installed.

Works on Timiryazev Street

According to the akimat, 62 trees and 23,247 shrubs were planted on Timiryazev Street. About 66,800 square meters of lawn are provided, 12 km of automatic watering system have been laid, and 93 lighting poles have been installed.

Works on Zhandosov Street

On Zhandosov Street, 118 trees, 41,066 shrubs, and 1,703 perennial plants were planted. About 21,700 square meters are allocated for lawn, 12 km of automatic watering system have been laid, and 115 lighting poles have been installed.

Difficulties during repairs

During the repair, the improvement caused many questions among Almaty residents. Due to closed sidewalks and construction fences, pedestrians had to look for detours and go onto the roadway. Residents also complained about dust and inconvenient passages.

New infrastructure

After the improvement, the authorities promise to make pedestrian infrastructure more convenient and create conditions for cyclists and people with limited mobility.

Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle reported that the akimat explained the organization of works by the principle of "checkerboard order." While builders work on one side of the street, the other should remain accessible to pedestrians. However, in practice, citizens encountered sections where the usual passage was blocked.
