The modernization of CHP-2 and the establishment of its operation were planned to be completed by September 30, 2026, but the Ministry of Energy, following a visit to the facility by the head of the department, Yerlan Akkenzhenov, announced different deadlines. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Converting CHP-2 from coal to gas will reduce emissions of harmful substances from its operation by up to 90%. As of September 19, according to the press service of the Ministry of Energy, the facility is 93.75% ready. The work was behind schedule, but the gap with the plan has now been eliminated. Commissioning work is already underway at the station.
The preliminary launch of the main generating equipment is scheduled for October 15. The station is planned to be fully commissioned by the end of December 2026.
At the same time, work at CHP-3 is seriously behind schedule. As of today, it is 27% ready. The facility employs 809 people and 70 units of equipment.
"The pace of work at CHP-3 is causing serious concern. References to logistical difficulties are not accepted; these issues should have been resolved in advance. The contractor must urgently resolve problems with equipment supplies, strengthen shifts with specialists, and catch up with the approved schedule. The deadlines for commissioning the station will not be revised; responsibility of company management will be personal," said Yerlan Akkenzhenov.
