Construction of the Kalkaman metro station in Almaty has entered its final phase. The official metro account released a video showing one of the first trains arriving at the station. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The video shows city mayor Darkhan Satybaldy riding the test train. There were no issues with the train reaching Kalkaman station. Currently, the station is 97% complete.
According to the video, all finishing work on the platform and surrounding areas is finished. The station is decorated with a bas-relief of a Kazakh girl. In the comments, Almaty residents are asking for the station to open before September so that citizens can get to school and work faster at the start of the academic year.
Acting metro director Arsen Dzhangildin stated at a briefing that the station is planned to launch by the end of 2026. It will extend the first and only line of the Almaty metro after Bauyrzhan Momyshuly station. The new station will help residents of microdistricts in the western part of the city reach the center faster. After Kalkaman, the metro line is planned to be extended towards the Barlyk market.
Earlier, Kursiv reported on plans to improve the area around the station entrance.
