The Bereke market at the intersection of Gogol and Muratbayev streets in Almaty has been demolished. According to the 2GIS service, it housed at least 23 retail outlets. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The city administration's press service stated that the structure was built without the necessary permits.
An unscheduled inspection issued a directive to the owner to rectify the violations. After he failed to comply, the case was taken to the Specialized Interdistrict Economic Court.
The judge ordered the market's demolition, and the owner carried out the order on his own.
Earlier, the city administration reported that since the beginning of 2026, 45 spontaneous trading sites had been identified in the city, employing 1,211 people. As of June 19, 27 of them had been closed. The remaining sites are mainly concentrated near large markets, including the "barakholka" area.
Previously, Kursiv reported on the outcome of the illegal lifting of the ban on the operation of the Nikolsky market in Almaty. It was intended to be sold to foreigners, but the fraud was uncovered and the perpetrators were sentenced.
