One of the oldest murals in Almaty, 'Father of Apples', has been covered in scaffolding. There is a possibility that it may be painted over. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
'Father of Apples' is located in the very center of the city: at Kurmangazy, 33, between Nazarbayev and Tulebayev streets. It was created back in 2013 at the Artbat Fest festival. The authors, the creative group '310', ironically reinterpreted the translation of the Kazakh expression 'Alma-Ata'. The mural was created in pop-art style. By the way, it is unofficially called 'Bandit with a Bag of Money'.
Watch in Threads The photo shows that the mural has been covered in scaffolding. It has already survived several restorations, but it is not excluded that it may also be painted over as part of the 'from facade to facade' program. Then one of the city's iconic street art objects will become history.
In the comments, users lean toward exactly this option.
'It's a pity, of course, how much the artists worked and put in effort. Well, never mind, new ones will be painted,' wrote one of the commenters.
Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle wrote that in honor of the Almaty Marathon, a new mural was created on the terrenkur — this is how the city marked the 15th anniversary of the running sports event.
