Yandex robotaxi controlled by artificial intelligence (AI) will be launched in Almaty. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The project will see 100 robotaxis operating in the city. Each robotaxi is controlled by AI, but for safety reasons, an operator will be present in the cabin. The robotaxis will only serve designated areas of Almaty.

Yandex representatives emphasized that special attention is paid to traffic safety. The robotaxis follow traffic rules, recognize road signs, and avoid obstacles. They are also equipped with special sensors to ensure passenger safety.

The launch date has not been set yet, but the company aims to launch the service by the end of 2026. The cost of the robotaxi service has not been determined, but it is expected to be comparable to regular taxi fares.

The Almaty city administration has expressed support for the project. Officials noted that robotaxis could help reduce traffic congestion and improve the environmental situation. Since the robotaxis are electric vehicles, they will reduce harmful emissions.

Yandex previously successfully tested robotaxis in Moscow. The Almaty project is based on that experience. The company plans to expand robotaxi services in Kazakhstan.
