A young man born in 2004 died in a traffic accident involving an ambulance and an electric bicycle in Almaty. He is believed to have worked for a courier delivery service. The accident occurred on the night of July 1 at a construction site of the BRT line. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Zakon.kz.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred on Raiymbek Avenue between Utegen Batyr and Yemtsov streets, where construction work is ongoing.
Preliminary reports indicate a head-on collision. The e-bike driver sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. After the impact, the two-wheeled vehicle ended up under the ambulance.
The ambulance driver stated that he was traveling east on Raiymbek Avenue with flashing lights on. According to him, the e-bike driver initially rode in the center of the lane and then moved into oncoming traffic.
The ambulance driver claims he tried to avoid the collision by turning the steering wheel toward the median strip and stopping the vehicle, but could not prevent the accident.
Eyewitnesses also noted that the incident occurred on a section where BRT line construction is ongoing and a temporary traffic scheme is in effect.
