A new six-lane highway will appear in Almaty. According to the metropolis akimat, it will connect Ryskulov Avenue with Bukhtarminskaya Street and become part of the development of the 'Eastern Gate' polycenter. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The length of the new road will be 4.6 kilometers, and the width — 50 meters. According to the authorities' plan, the highway should improve the transport situation in the eastern part of the city, provide convenient access to the Big Almaty Ring Road (BAKAD), and strengthen the connection of Almaty with the settlements of the agglomeration.

'To implement the project, about 200 land plots will need to be purchased, the owners of which have already received relevant notifications,' the akimat reported.

In addition to the construction of the highway itself, it is planned to create another 17.5 kilometers of new roads and utility networks in this area. The akimat believes that this will prepare the territory for further development of residential, public, and transport infrastructure.

The department clarified that the project is being implemented within the framework of the Almaty General Plan and is aimed at developing new districts of the city, creating a modern road network, and improving transport accessibility.

Earlier, Kursiv wrote that Almaty plans to completely abandon the usual concept of a 'bedroom community.' City authorities have announced their intention to rebuild the very concept of the metropolis.

In March, Almaty akim Darkhan Satybaldy signed a resolution of the city akimat, according to which 270 land plots will be forcibly seized for the construction of the first line of the light rail transit (LRT). It is known that the forced purchase will take place in Alatau, Zhetysu, Almaly, and Auezov districts.
