A scandal erupted on Threads over an ad seeking a foreigner willing to buy Kazakh citizenship through a sham marriage for a two-room apartment in Almaty. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The post was published by a user under the nickname saiora.dream. "Hello! My name is Sayora, I am looking for a Chinese man who wants to register a marriage and obtain Kazakh citizenship. About me: 37 years old, height 158 cm, weight 55 kg, very beautiful. I ask for a 2-room apartment in Almaty, if interested, write," she wrote.
It is worth noting that the girl has only two posts on her page, and there is no information about who she is or where she lives.
Despite this, the ad about finding a fictitious husband gathered many comments. Kazakhs are massively tagging the accounts of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the police department, and even the Criminal Executive System Committee, demanding a legal assessment of the author's actions.
"I ask to check the publication containing an offer to conclude a marriage with a foreign citizen for the purpose of obtaining citizenship of the Republic of Kazakhstan. I ask to establish the legality of the alleged basis for obtaining citizenship and the presence of signs of a fictitious marriage or other violations of migration legislation," wrote Kamila Akimzhanova.
So far, there has been no reaction from law enforcement agencies under the post. Kursiv requested information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but at the time of publication no response was received.
It should be noted that the very fact of marriage registration does not automatically grant the right to citizenship. A foreigner can apply for a Kazakh passport if he or she has been in an official marriage with a citizen of Kazakhstan for at least 3 years. In this case, it is necessary that the joint life is actually conducted on the territory of the republic. That is, after the marriage, you will need to obtain a residence permit and live in the country, observing all migration rules.
