Rescuers evacuated 127 people from a smoke-filled high-rise building in Almaty. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the fire occurred in an apartment on the ninth floor of a 16-story residential building on Abai Avenue in the Bostandyk district. Furniture caught fire.

Rescuers arrived at the scene on an elevated call rank. There was heavy smoke in the entrance. Emergency workers set up an operational headquarters and sent gas and smoke protection units to rescue residents. A fire truck ladder was also installed for the operation.

"Forty-two people were led out of the smoke zone via the stairwell. Another 85 residents, including four children, were rescued using special rescue hoods," the Ministry of Emergency Situations said.
