Almaty has launched the TazaQala digital platform, which allows residents to report unauthorized landfills and track their elimination. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The project was presented at the Faculty of Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The platform was developed on the initiative of the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office of Almaty together with KazNU and supported by Eco Almaty LLP within the framework of the republican environmental campaign "Taza Kazakhstan".
The system uses elements of artificial intelligence and allows citizens to report illegal waste storage sites, as well as track the status of applications and the progress of cleanup work.
As noted by Arman Nugirbekov, the specialized environmental prosecutor of Almaty, the platform helps establish constant communication between residents and government agencies.
"The platform allows us to stay in touch with Almaty residents, quickly receive information about problem areas, and control the process of eliminating landfills. At the same time, residents themselves can see the results of the work and track the progress of solving environmental issues," he said.
According to the prosecutor's office, since the system was launched, 871 unauthorized landfill sites have been identified, of which 507 have already been eliminated. More than 500 tons of waste have been removed from the territories.
It was also reported that heads of local executive bodies were brought to administrative responsibility for violating environmental requirements in waste management.
After the presentation, raid events were organized for students and media representatives in different districts of the city with the participation of employees of the prosecutor's office, police, the Department of Ecology, the Ecology Department, Eco Almaty LLP, KazNU students, and eco-activists.
The organizers note that the introduction of TazaQala will make the detection and elimination of landfills more efficient and transparent, as well as strengthen the participation of residents in maintaining the environmental cleanliness of the city.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that in the Almaty region, 201 individuals were brought to administrative responsibility for environmental violations. The regional prosecutor's office reported that systematic work is being carried out to identify and eliminate unauthorized landfills, and raid events are being conducted jointly with the police and local executive bodies.
The supervisory authority noted that work continues on cleaning territories from solid household waste and strengthening preventive measures. Residents of the region were urged to maintain cleanliness and comply with the requirements of environmental legislation.
