In Almaty, a teenager who went for a walk in the mountains with her parents was admitted to the intensive care unit of a hospital. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the press service of the Center for Emergency Medical Care for Children, the incident occurred on September 19. An 11-year-old girl was bitten by an unknown insect while walking in the mountains with her parents.
"The girl's eyes became swollen, and lethargy and drowsiness appeared. An insect or reptile bit her leg. After examination, doctors decided to hospitalize her in the intensive care unit," the center said.
However, doctors did not confirm that the child was specifically bitten by a snake. According to the center, this is the first possible case of a snakebite in Almaty.
"Taking into account the clinical picture and the risk of a venomous snakebite, the child was administered one dose of antiseptic serum. But the serum was not ordered from Uzbekistan. The necessary drug was in the hospital when the child was admitted and is currently available," hospital specialists said.
According to them, after the first dose was administered, the girl's health began to improve. Currently, the child's condition is stable.
"Additional doses of serum are administered according to medical indications, taking into account the clinical picture and the dynamics of the patient's condition. If the condition improves, repeated administration of serum is not carried out," the press service of the Center for Emergency Medical Care for Children said.
Such anti-snake serum is available in the city's medical organizations, including trauma centers. Information that this drug is ordered from Uzbekistan is not true, center specialists said.
