A unique golden ornament dating back to the Saka era has been found in Almaty, the Almaty akimat reported. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

During archaeological excavations at the Karagaily burial ground in the Nauryzbay district, a golden figurine made in the shape of a bear was discovered.

According to scientists' assumptions, this item was used as a headdress ornament. Preliminary studies suggest that the burial mound dates back to the 4th–3rd centuries BC.

"According to experts, such golden figurines in the shape of a bear have not been found in Kazakhstan before. This find allows us to study cultural connections and similarities across the Eurasian space from the Black Sea region to the Altai," the statement said.

Fragments of pottery typical of the Saka era were also found during the excavations. Research work is currently ongoing.

After scientific processing, the highly valuable artifacts are planned to be presented to the public at the Almaty Museum.
