Police detained a man who attempted to escape from patrol officers in the Medeu district of Almaty. During the chase, he threw away a bag containing a large batch of a substance believed to be marijuana. The detainee himself estimated its black market value at approximately 500 million tenge. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The incident occurred on Kerey–Zhanibek Khans Street. Patrol officers of the "Buran-613" crew noticed a suspicious young man in a private residential area.

Upon seeing the police, the man sharply changed direction and tried to run away. While running, he began taking off and throwing away his clothes, and also got rid of a bag.

"The patrol officers did not let him get away. The man was blocked and detained," police said.

A large batch of a plant-based substance with a characteristic odor was found in the discarded bag. According to preliminary data, it could be marijuana. The exact composition and mass of the seized substance will be determined by a forensic chemical examination.

According to law enforcement, the detainee preliminarily admitted that the drugs were intended for further distribution. He estimated their possible black market value at approximately 500 million tenge.

Officers of the Medeu district police department and an investigative-operational group arrived at the scene. The substance was seized and sent for examination. A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the incident.
