A building for the joint Kazakhstan-China earthquake research center has opened in Almaty. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

According to the Almaty city administration, the opening of the building became an important stage in the development of cooperation between Kazakhstan and China in the field of seismic safety. The Kazakh side has created the necessary infrastructure for the operation of the future joint center.

Step within the intergovernmental agreement

The administration's statement notes that in order to systematically develop bilateral scientific cooperation, prior to the signing of the intergovernmental agreement on the establishment of the joint Kazakhstan-China earthquake research center, an Earthquake Research Center was established within the structure of the Scientific Center for Seismological Observations and Research, comprising three specialized laboratories.

The functional focus of these laboratories corresponds to the planned work model of the future joint center. This allows joint scientific research to begin already at this stage.

The opening of the center marks a new phase in cooperation between the two countries in the field of seismic safety. The new building will provide modern conditions for conducting joint research and exchanging experience.
